Perhaps you’ve considered going on a weight loss diet at various times in your life. But if it appeared to be too much work or too hard to figure out, maybe you decided against it. From what you hear and read these days, there are many myths about dieting. Read on to learn more about them, and why they’re wrong.

1. One of the most common myths is that you can drop pounds quickly just by a severe cutback in food and calorie intake. This way of dieting can be highly damaging to your health. Your body goes into starvation mode, and hangs onto as much fat as possible.

2. In our search for quick weight loss, another myth will instruct us to eat just a certain kind of food. The cabbage soup diet has no doubt led to many binge episodes through its existence. An unbalanced fad diet will result in not enough nutrients that are essential for good health and a strong immune system.

3. Maybe you think that it’s an irreversible error to slip up on your diet. If you do, you’ll need to exercise for hours to make up for it. This is simply untrue. There’s nothing wrong with the occasional bowl of ice cream. It’s only necessary that you cut back on your calories for a day or two. If you indulged yourself a little too much, a punishing workout certainly isn’t necessary.

4. A particularly persistent myth is that you shouldn’t eat just before going to bed because your body can’t burn off the calories while you’re sleeping. This one isn’t true because a diet only means that you’re eating healthy and watching your caloric intake for the day. A bite to eat just before going to bed won’t matter one way or the other. Unless, of course, it’s a 5-course meal or an entire frozen cheesecake.

5. How about the one that says you can’t eat anything between meals? It’s actually healthier if you do snack occasionally. Consume several mini meals through your day and your hunger won’t overwhelm you. By eliminating snacks between meals, you’re only going to make yourself hungrier at meal times. You might end up eating considerably more food than your body requires just to keep hunger at bay.

6. There’s another myth that says you shouldn’t consume any dairy products at all because they’re too fattening. But there are many essential nutrients contained in dairy products, so it’s unwise to completely cut them from your eating plan. There are even studies that show a correlation between weight loss and eating dairy products on a daily basis. But don’t overindulge, and choose lower fat products.

Don’t be taken in by the vast number of weight loss myths you read about on the internet. Nutritious, mindful eating along with regular exercise can be the combination that will help you with your healthy weight loss.
